Have you damaged your car on a pothole or council maintained road? You may be able to claim.
Many local motorists don’t realise that if your vehicle is damaged due to something like a pothole, defective road surface, or poorly maintained pavement you can submit an insurance claim to BCP Council.
BCP has a formal process in place for this. If you believe BCP was responsible for damage or loss, you can make what’s called a public liability claim. These are assessed based on whether the council was legally at fault, so while compensation isn’t automatic, the process exists to ensure residents are treated fairly.
To submit a claim, you’ll need to provide:
* Date & time of the incident
* Exact location (postcode helps)
* Details of what happened
* Details of damage or loss (e.g. vehicle make & registration)
Claims must be made in writing and can be sent via:
Or by post to:

If your own insurer covers the damage, they may also pursue the council directly on your behalf if liability is established.
